A by-product from the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) process, gypsum will exit the system FGD as a slurry and enter the dewatering phase. Gypsum can be mechanically dewatered a number of different ways including; using vacuum filters or centrifuges. Dewatering can also be achieved using settling ponds and stack outs. Dewatering can result in a gypsum cake product which could have moisture levels at 5%. Dewatering methods can also control particle size, chloride content, and removal of any other impurities.
