Revolutionary Two-Handled Plastic Packaging For Concrete Mix & Other Building Materials From Charah

Say good-bye to hauling around dusty paper bags of concrete mix, mortar, grout, sand or gravel. Charah, Inc. has launched totally sealed plastic bags with two handles for a line of 14 different building material products, exclusively for The Home Depot’s Virginia locations. Charah’s innovative patent-pending packaging is easier to lift and carry, less likely to break and much cleaner than traditional paper bags, making it attractive to retailers as well as consumers.

The complete list of exclusive products using this new packaging to date includes:

  • The Home Depot PROJECT MIX Concrete (29 lb. bag)
  • Crack Resistant 5000 Concrete Mix (44 lb. bag)
  • Fast Setting Concrete Mix (36 lb. bag)
  • Contractor Grade Concrete Mix (80 lb. bag)
  • Mortar Mix Type S (80 lb. bag)
  • Mortar Mix (60 lb. bag)
  • Play Sand (50 lb. bag)

  • Non-Shrink Grout (50 lb. bag)
  • #30 Mesh Mason’s Mortar & Plaster Sand (50 lb. bag)
  • All Purpose Gravel (50 lb. bag)

Jack Rheinhold, Concrete Products Merchant for Building Materials at The Home Depot, said, "The new packaging is the most exciting, powerful innovation in the bagged concrete industry in 70 years. The sealed plastic bag is sturdy and the two handles make it very easy for our customers to transport.”

All products meet ASTM standards. PROJECT MIX, Crack Resistant 5000 Concrete Mix and Fast Setting Concrete Mix are made with EPA award-winning PriceLite aggregate, a lightweight aggregate made of bottom ash, which dramatically increases the potential for beneficial use of both bottom ash and fly ash produced by coal-burning utilities. All products are bagged at a new Charah-owned and operated production plant in Emporia, Virginia, the first of several planned packaging plants for producing and packaging the company’s lightweight and other concrete products. The facility also serves as a warehouse and distribution center.

According to Charles Price, President and CEO of Charah, Inc., “Charah prides itself in being a trendsetter in the ash management industry and a proven specialist in bottom ash recycling. This revolutionary packaging is an example of the innovative solutions we strive to provide.”
