Charah, Inc. Launches GreenFill™ Structural Fill Service

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 1, 2007) – Charah®, Inc., a leading ash management provider for the coal-fired electric utility industry, announced today that it has launched GreenFill™ as part of its structural fill portfolio of services. Such structural fill applications facilitate construction for recreational fields and facilities, airport expansion projects, commercial building pads, industrial parks, warehouse facilities and parking lots.

Charah's GreenFill projects use recycled, non-hazardous coal combustion products (CCPs) from fly and bottom ash to replace traditional structural fill materials such as dirt, gravel, and sand, thus conserving natural resources. These GreenFill projects help architects and builders qualify for LEED certification points on their building projects.

Charah annually processes and markets approximately 500,000 tons of bottom ash to the concrete block and concrete mix industries in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Missouri. Ash management clients include Ameren, Duke Energy, E.ON U.S., Progress Energy, Reliant Energy and Southern Company, among others.

"We are committed to providing our partners the highest quality products that offer innovative, environmentally conscious solutions," said Charles Price, president and CEO of Charah. "GreenFill is yet another example of our ash management expertise."

Charah is a charter member of the U.S. EPA's Coal Combustion Products Partnership (C2P2), which encourages beneficial use of coal by-products. In April 2005, Charah was awarded the prestigious C2P2 first-place award for Innovation by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for its outstanding achievements in increasing the amount of CCPs beneficially used. Charah's award was for its achievements in developing the new, patent-pending concrete mix and packaging currently sold at The Home Depot stores.
