Charah prides itself in being a trendsetter in the ash management industry. Not only do we manage and operate landfills, process and market bottom ash materials, develop and operate structural fill, manage ash ponds and process IGCC slag for utilities, but we strive to find new ways to utilize coal combustion products to benefit both the utility industry and our environment.
Packaged Concrete Mix:
Our latest ash usage innovation is our bottom ash-based packaged concrete mix currently available in the Virginia and St. Louis markets.
Charah's concrete mix is packaged in a patent-pending totally sealed plastic bag with handles, making it much easier to carry, less likely to break and much cleaner than traditional paper bags. These packaging attributes make it attractive to retailers as well as consumers. And of course, since the concrete mix is made with a recycled ash product that otherwise could end up in a landfill, it's environmentally valuable as well.
Charah is currently supplying The Home Depot stores in the Virginia and St. Louis markets to sell Charah's concrete mix on a regional basis. New production plants, the first of their kind owned and operated by Charah and QUIKRETE, are operating in Virginia and St. Louis producing ash based concrete products.
In April 2005, Charah was awarded the C2P2 first place award for Innovation by the EPA for its outstanding achievements in increasing the amount of CCPs beneficially used. Charah was recognized for its commendable achievements in developing this ash-based packaging concrete mix.
